34% of the total area of the WeltTellerFeld - about 1020 m2 - is used to cultivate animal fodder necessary to produce the amount of meat, sausages, eggs and dairy products consumed by an Austrian person per year. with. This area at the WeltTellerFeld shows the amount of grassland and arable land farmers use for feeding animals. The pastures and meadows of the permanent grassland grow fodder that is either eaten directly by the animals or mowed by the farmers and later fed in the barn. Fodder is being grown on pastures and meadows of grasslands and either fed directly to the animals or mowed by the farmers and later fed to the animals in the barn.  But as you can see, crops like wheat or corn are also grown in the fields and used for animal feed. We eat the meat, dairy products or eggs of these animals.

That's how it is!?
In Austria, a lot of corn is grown for animal feed. Very large areas are covered only with this plant. 

If only one type of plant is grown on large areas, then....

The Answer:
All answers are correct! If there is a diversity of plants, there is also a diversity of insects. They balance each other out and no species increases in numbers too much. Plants draw nutrients from the soil so they can grow well. A monocultural area depletes the soil because it only pulls the same nutrients from the soil. As a result, there soon will be too few of some nutrients and too many of others. 

One thing I can do!
Only healthy soils can feed us. Many farmers know this, too. To keep their soils healthy, they use natural fertilizers, do careful soil cultivation and prefer biodiversity over monoculture. One handful of good soil contains as many microorganisms as there are people in the world! These microorganisms and other soil animals like the earthworm are important for a good harvest. You can also contribute to the protection of the soil! For example, by buying organic food. Organic food protects the soil because chemical pesticides and mineral fertilizers are largely banned.
